I am finally home from a 12-hour work day - phew am I exhausted! Today was well over 90 degrees for the entire day, and I felt every bit of that heat. I'm wiped out! I'm very thankful that I managed to stay hydrated. One of our favorite sayings at the zoo is "hydrate or die" because it's true; it gets so hot, if you don't constantly drink water you will definitely pass out!
Today certainly started out exciting. I started out at the 9:30 giraffe feeding, which I was really excited for. I managed to get a giraffe to come over to feed, and the first thing she did was sneeze all over me! Talk about disgusting. Picture the scene in Jurassic Park where the Brachiosaurus sneezes on Lex - that's pretty much what happened to me! The people in line got a good laugh, though.
Then, during the feeding, the same giraffe (Cece) got one of her ossicones stuck in the netting. I got really scared, because giraffes can get nervous and freak out, causing them to have a heart attack. Thankfully, I, along with the help of a few other feeders, got her unstuck.
Finally, today I was able to feed our little baby Nasha (seen above)! This was super exciting; she's finally tall enough to reach the lettuce! She didn't totally grasp the concept of eating the lettuce once she grabbed it, but it was still pretty good practice!
And that was just my morning. The rest of the day was pretty good; I went on encounters, got to hang out with our Galapagos Tortoises, and participated in the buyout this night. Needless to say, I'm very thankful to be in air conditioning and ready for some sleep.
