At this point, my internship at the Cincinnati Zoo is officially over. Even though I have been away from the zoo for a couple days now, I still find myself wishing to be back. But before I do some reminiscing, I want to go over my last, FABULOUS day at the zoo!
On the very last day of my internship, that morning we got to go behind the scenes to meet Harapan, the only Sumatran rhino in North America! This was an extremely special treat, as he will be leaving us soon to travel back to Indonesia with intents to breed him. He is such an amazing animal, and such a sweetie! We are very lucky to have him at the Cincinnati Zoo, and I consider myself one of the lucky few people who will ever get to meet a Sumatran rhino in their lives. It was even more special for me to meet Harapan because for my final intern project, I developed a Sumatran rhino chat - and performed it for a live audience! It was really nerve wracking, but it also wasn't too hard because I have become so passionate about saving the species. Unfortunately there are less than 100 Sumatran rhinos left in the world; Harapan is one of only 9 in captivity. Since he's inside for most of the day, not many people even know that he's there. So, that's what made me decide to do a chat for him! If you want to read it, you can read it here:

So, that was the end of my internship. It was an incredible summer, and I was very sad to be leaving the zoo, knowing that I wouldn't be seeing the wonderful ladies I made lasting friendships with all summer or the animals I had grown to love as my own every single day. Or so I thought.
The next day, my first day off, I got a call from one of our supervisors - not just any supervisor, but the big Head Honcho supervisor. I was very confused, wondering what on earth she could be calling me for. So I answered, and she completely surprised me: I WAS OFFERED A JOB!!! I was so excited and so stunned, I was speechless! All of my hard work during the summer had paid off, and I will now be working through October as a Wild Encounters Interpreter of FUN!!! I am so excited to begin my journey as paid staff, even if it means a busy semester. I can finally put on my resume Paid Experience!!! This just goes to show that every day is an interview, and I am so thankful that my supervisors saw how hard I had worked all summer and decided that I was right to fill the open position. On to the next Zoo adventure!!!
