English Class!
So, this summer I was staying in Cincinnati in order to catch up on some of my science classes. Since I was already here, I decided to knock out another required class as well - Sophomore English. At first, I didn't even realize that I had signed up for an honors course; I was just signing up for a class that fit my schedule! When I found out it was an honors course I was a little worried - what would it be like? Would it be a lot of extra work? Would it be boring?
I went to the first day of class rather apprehensively. Well, actually, I ended up missing the first class because I got the dates mixed up and thought we started a week later! Thankfully, my professor, Ms. Brayman, was understanding. Even still, I wasn't at all excited for my first day - I mean, it was at 8 in the morning during the summer, and for a class I didn't even think I should have been in!
To my surprise, it ended up being a really fantastic class! Ms. Brayman brought a lot of life (and coffee and donuts!) to a required class that I had always heard was no good. She challenged us to both think and write in different ways, and to get ourselves to write in a genre outside of the standard five-paragraph academic essay.
This class was SO beneficial. I feel as if I was finally able to write creatively for school, which was something that I had missed. Now that I have finished this, I am aware of more genres of writing than I had known of previously, such as the creative non-fiction and the study of studies. It was a great class!
