Alright! So this blog was created to document my experience as an intern at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens for this summer! I was SUPER excited to have been selected for such a competitive internship, and was eager to start!
In the chaos of learning everything and getting settled in, I sort of forgot to create this blog...until now! So even though I am already a month into my internship, this blog will still be a great way to document the rest of my summer.
So! What do I do exactly as someone in "Wild Encounters?" A lot of what we do is Random Animal Encounters (RAEs) which is where we take an animal from the Interpretive Collection for the public to meet and, sometimes, touch. These are super fun because we get to choose our own animals to take out, so it's always different! It's really rewarding getting people who are afraid of touching certain animals to do it, and seeing their faces light up with excitement. Besides RAEs, we also are in charge of doing the schedules animal feedings and many appearances! My favorite place in the entire zoo is on Giraffe Ridge; I could watch our 5 giraffes all day! The feedings are super fun because they are up close and personal, and you get to feed them lettuce! We also do a camel feeding which is fun, a Galapagos tortoise encounter, and work in the petting zoo with our old, fat goats.
I can honestly say that every day so far has been an absolute blast! From today forward, I will be (attempting) to do a daily blog entry talking about my day!
