I gotta say, this is one exhausting summer. But, it is also one of the best summers I've ever had! I can't believe that there are only 6 weeks left in my internship at the zoo; that seems like no time at all!
Things around here are getting pretty exciting. New animals, new places, new projects! Yesterday I just presented my latest project, on Random Encounter animals. I did a survey for guests as they exited the zoo asking which animals they randomly found that day to interact with. I found out that a ton of people saw snakes, and even saw snakes more than once! Even though this could have been because we have a lot of snakes in our collection, I still think we need to work on bringing animals other than snakes out as well.
Even more exciting than our projects, however, is that one of the interns is going to be promoted to a paid-staff member! I'm definitely going to apply, and while I don't think I'll get it (just because there are two interns who are no longer in college) I do think I'm competitive, and deserve it just as much as any of the other interns. I know I'll be bummed if I don't get it (because who doesn't like money?!) but I'll just try to keep moving forward, using it as a learning experience for future interviews and job applications.
Well, that's it for now - I've been social for the past few days in a row, and it's really worn me out!
